One of my conscientious readers was
appalled at the "waste of latex and water"
shown in the video of "You Make Me Smile",
which I posted a day or two ago.
Do you agree with this anonymous sir or madame?

Is it a "waste-fest" as this person claimed? Or is it making
creative use of resources to provide
joy and entertainment with little
harm to anyone?
Thoughts, please.

Well I suspect the balloons had already been made and were not special ordered and the water just went right back into the environment by watering the grass. (And UT grass needs to be watered!) I'm with the "creative use of resources to provide joy..." philosophy.
It's a pretty minimal usage of plastic and water in the scheme of things.
Wasteful? Of course.
A waste? Well, it seems to have had a lot of value to those who participated.
On average the amount of petroleum and water wasted by each person in that crowd during the course of a week (private automobile and HVAC fuel, disposed plastic packaging, shaving in the shower, etc.) completely dwarfs the amount in the balloons he threw.
Oh! It was all in good fun! Worth every drop!

Sad that you took it public then clammed up under the pressure of the comments that didn't fit so well into your world...may as well delete the whole post now. Guessing you'll keep collecting the supportive posts rather than committing to your original invitation for visitors' thoughts (you should have warned visitors that you'd only post their thoughts if agree with yours ;) ) Nice attempt at pretending to be open minded...better luck next time...

It did look fun, it did look like a lot of little pieces of balloon scattered around...isn't it about balance? I think if we are truly concerned about wastefulness and protecting our Mother Earth, one needs to focus on a bigger picture. What can I do to reduce my footprint? What can you do? Who can we encourage to be more proactive in conserving resources? Can we try to see the good?
I am all for preserving the earth... but I think preserving memories like that are worth it. I am sure they had to clean it up anyway.
So fun. Don't ya just get kind of tired of all the "waste" talk? Looks like fun and I'm sure it made a lifelong memory for those who participated.
